Anniversary in Memphis

David has been done with the T-6 for about a week now! His Track Select isn't until February 17th so he has had a few days off (I'll write about Track Select next week and explain what it is all about). Since he hasn't been going to class or flying we took advantage of his spare time and celebrated our 5 year anniversary! Our anniversary isn't until March 12th but David won't have any time then.
I cannot believe it has already been 5 years. It still feels like it has only been a year or so. I guess that is a good thing :)
We decided to go to Memphis and celebrate for the weekend. We got their Friday night and went and ate a place called Corky's. They have the best ribs ever! We got there at almost 7pm and there were so many people there. We parked in front of a different store and hoped we didn't get ticketed or towed. We were waiting to be seated and it had been quite awhile. David said he was going to go check on the car to make sure everything was okay. He came back about 5 minutes later and completely surprised me. He came in carrying these!

Yes they are just flowers, but David hasn't given me flowers since we have been married. I got them twice when we were dating. Please don't think badly of David; he has given me many other things that I love and cherish over the past 5 years. He understood from the beginning that I am not a huge fan of flowers. I just think that if you get them to often they lose their meaning. It's like "Way to go, you really went out of your way for this." I know I am weird but that is how I feel. These did mean a lot to me and they are even more special because Gerber Daisies are what we had at our wedding.
The next day we went to the temple in Memphis. The temples in Birmingham and Memphis are the closest ones to us. They are both about two hours away. It was so relaxing to be able to go and was much needed. We haven't been able to go together since we moved here.

After the temple we went to downtown Memphis to a place called Rendezvous. It is an a little alley which I think would be scary at night. We have heard a lot of people talk about it but we both agree that Corky's is way better!
We tried going to the Gibson factory. You can go on a tour and see them make guitars. All of the workers had gone home already so we wouldn't have been able to see anything happen. If any of you ever go to Memphis though I would plan on doing that during the week and earlier in the day. The schedules get full fast! Instead we went to the. . . .
It was interesting to walk around and read about all of the history and see the pictures. The picture below is where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot. The museum is inside the hotel. They kept the outer appearance of it but changed everything inside.
It was a great weekend to spend with my hubby and I am so grateful for the time I have been able to spend with him. I have been quite spoiled this past week. Next week however will go back to his crazy 12 hour days and more studying. He has done so well in training and I am so proud of him. We are half way done here and closer to coming home! I honestly can't wait.
Thanks for the best 5 years babe and to many, many more! I love you!
